Sell or buy a used iPhone, inspected before anyone pays.
BiNew makes used iPhone and iPad deals safe for both sides, on any online marketplace or classifieds site. The seller brings the phone to iPoint in Hackensack, NJ, and we send the buyer a written inspection report. The buyer pays the seller directly. Only then does the phone leave iPoint, handed over at our office or shipped to any US state.
Selling your used iPhone on Facebook Marketplace
Show your confidence in your phone. Add a free iPoint line to your listing, there or on any other site.
- Stand out from scammers. The line tells buyers you are ready to have your iPhone checked by someone else. It costs you nothing.
- Sell beyond local pickup. Facebook Marketplace will not ship anything listed over $500 (Meta Seller Protection Policy), and a recent iPhone often lists for more. With BiNew, a buyer in any US state can buy your phone, and iPoint ships it.
- Paid before it leaves iPoint. Your phone is released only after you confirm the payment arrived. No waiting for delivery or a platform payout: on a shipped Marketplace order, Meta says the money can take up to 20 days from the day you mark it shipped (Meta Help).
- No platform fee off your price. Facebook keeps 10% of a shipped order (minimum $0.80), and other marketplaces charge their own selling fees. With BiNew the buyer pays for the inspection, and you keep the full price you agreed.
Before you list, follow Apple's own steps for signing out, turning off Find My and erasing the device.
How BiNew works
- The buyer books BiNew and pays the inspection fee up front.
- The seller brings the iPhone to iPoint by appointment, and it stays with us.
- We inspect, test and photograph it and send the buyer a written report.
- The buyer pays the seller directly. iPoint never holds the buyer's money.
- Handover. Once the seller confirms the payment, we hand the phone over at our office or ship it, with optional shipping insurance. Unpaid after a week, it goes back to the seller.
How to buy a used iPhone without getting scammed
Locked to someone else's Apple Account
The phone works at the meetup, then asks for the previous owner's password after a reset. Apple's rule: "Don't take ownership of any used iPhone or iPad if it's protected by Activation Lock" (Apple Support).
On May 24, 2024 a buyer posted that an iPhone bought on Facebook Marketplace showed Activation Lock and the seller had blocked them. One reply: "Apple will NOT help you" (Apple Community).
Stolen phones
A phone reported stolen has its IMEI blocked, and carriers will not activate it. A blocked phone can still power on, show the home screen and join Wi-Fi at the meetup.
The swap at the handover
You test one phone and take home another. With BiNew, the phone in the report stays at iPoint until it is handed to you.
How to check a used iPhone before you buy
- Run an IMEI check. Ask for the IMEI (Settings > General > About) and check it at stolenphonechecker.org, the free CTIA checker. A clean result means only that it was not listed at that moment. A Wi-Fi-only iPad has no IMEI.
- Activation Lock. The phone should reach the Hello screen without asking for an earlier Apple Account. If it is not erased, the seller signs out and erases it in front of you. Walk away from "iPhone Locked to Owner".
- Carrier lock. In Settings > General > About, Carrier Lock should read "No SIM restrictions". An iPhone bought on a carrier installment plan can stay locked to that carrier until it is paid in full, and only the carrier can unlock it (Apple Support).
- Battery health. Settings > Battery > Battery Health shows Maximum Capacity. The lower it is, the sooner the battery needs replacing.
- Replaced parts. On a repaired iPhone, Settings > General > About shows Parts and Service History. "Unknown" or "Used" next to the battery, display or camera tells you what was replaced.
- Face ID and the rest. Unlock with Face ID, then try the cameras, speakers, buttons, charging and a call with your own SIM.
- Serial match, then money. The serial and IMEI in Settings should match the box and the listing. Never pay a deposit for a phone you have not held.
What the BiNew iPhone report covers
- Identity. Model, storage, color, serial number and IMEI, matched to the box and the listing.
- Locks. Activation Lock, Find My, carrier lock and the stolen-phone block list.
- Battery and parts. Maximum Capacity and Parts and Service History.
- Function. Face ID or Touch ID, display, cameras, speakers, microphones, buttons, charging and connectivity.
- Condition and contents. Photos of every side, and what is in the box compared with the listing.
The report describes the device on the day it is inspected, and it stays with iPoint until handover.
What the seller brings
- The iPhone or iPad, charged, with Find My off and signed out of their Apple Account, or ready to sign out.
- The cable and anything else the listing promises.
- The box, a receipt, and proof it is paid off if it was financed.
